Canon Power Shot SD800 Review

The Canon Power Shot SD800 IS Digital ELPH is an improvisation over the popular SD700 IS. SD800 include the Canon’s flagship Image Stabilization feature, point and shoot operation, trendy metal case with well rounded edges for ease of holding. Canon SD800 has a built in retracting lens along with the lens cover making it compact and easy to carry especially for travel purpose. Canon SD800 is fitted with a F2.8-5.8, 3.8X wide angle zoom lens rendering it extremely useful for indoor photography and close range subjects. The flash is immensely powerful though with an average cycle time.

It is handy and best fit for those who want to do away with bulky cameras. Though SD800 is not heavy it still is not extremely lightweight. But, once the user adjusts with the weight and firm grip, it feels just as smooth to operate. Canon Power Shot SD800 features DIGIC 3 processor combined with face detection technology allows for excellent image capturing even in challenging situations. The face detection is must for all automatic focus cameras and SD800 IS automatically numbers the images when they are played. The control system is easy to find and navigate through. But, for those who want to dominate the camera settings with manual mode Canon SD800 IS is a disappointment. The flash is immensely powerful though with an average cycle time.

The various auto scene modes assist novice photographers to focus more on clicking pictures rather than the worrying about the settings. However, the 168MB memory card supplied with Canon SD800 is grossly inadequate for storing more than a few good photographs. A SD800 purchase instantly calls for a memory card up gradation as well. The battery life of Canon SD800 is an average 270 shots that fall short of expectation when it comes to heavy-duty photography.

Overall, Canon Power Shot SD800 IS Digital ELPH is a good buy given its Image Stabilization (IS) feature and focusing capabilities. It reduces the image shake drastically for Zoom shots and slow shutter speeds allowing photo shooters and advantage over the poor light conditions as well.
