StreetPilot C330 Review

Garmin’s StreetPilot C330 is a simple to use, economical, and highly dependable GPS device. It comes ready to use straight from the box with preloaded detailed maps for the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. You can also load additional maps for travel outside these areas via an included SD slot.

Navigation comes in 2D or 3D maps, and voice directed turn by turn instructions. There is also a “where to” icon on the main screen that gives you icons for restaurants, hotels, gas stations, shopping, etc. Basically it has everything you’d need on vacation, or even a business trip. It also accepts custom points of interest such as school zones and safety cameras, and has the alert option, to send warnings when you approach points such as speed traps.

It does not display latitude, longitude, altitude, or satellite status, which may be a problem, depending on how much information you want access to. Also, the documentation that comes with it is a bit sparse. You may need to research to find out things like how to save your current location, which is not included in the instruction manual.

You will have the “Go Home” icon. You can set your home (or if you’re traveling, you can set your hotel or motel), and you can get your navigational directions with just the touch of the “Go Home” icon. You also have choices of things to avoid, such as toll roads, unpaved roads, etc. There are also many options for voice direction, 20 different languages for text, and 15 for voice direction.

The StreetPilot C330 gets its power from a lithium ion rechargeable battery that boasts up to 8 hours of use per charge. There’s also a vehicle 12 volt power adapter.

Of course, this is simply an easy to use navigational unit. There are no frills with it. There’s no JPEG picture viewer, calculator, and such that comes with many of Garmin’s products. The Bluetooth technology and MP3 player that comes with many other GPS devices are not present with the StreetPilot C330, so if you’re looking for a multi-functional device, this is probably not what you want.

However, for navigational purposes, it is a good device for what it does, and for the low cost. The re-navigation, in case you take a wrong turn, if quick and accurate. And the satellite connection is fast and reliable, as well.

So, if you are looking for simply a navigation assistant, without all the frills and fluff, then the StreetPilot C330 may be what you need. If you just want to get where you’re going, then this one will do the trick.
